Roll Back the Fat Raise to the PLEA Board

You all have given me a lot of new information that I didn't have and I am talking to some current and retired officers to fill in the details that I can find. I plan to post a few things this week, so keep your eye on this site and I'll have some information for you.

Several officers have sent me comments saying that Mark Spencer should roll back the big raises he gave to the PLEA board (and himself). The more I think about that, the more sense it makes.

I have never really understood why Spencer think that because he got us a 7% increase that he and the board should get 25%. Next year when the city whacks officers pay because S[encer has ruined all of PLEAs relationships at city hall, I really doubt that Spencer will cut the pay to the board (or himself). There are a lot of things that Spencer could be doing right now to show officers that he is representing us -- rolling back his fat pay increase would be a good start.

One thing I have wondered is if our union used the money that they were supposed to send to the National Memorial to fund their big pay raises. It is well known that he didn't send the money to D.C, but I would like to know where it is. Spencer needs to step up and show us where the money is. If he can't then it is a violation of the members trust and will.

  1. That money was taken in for the memorial was taken when they increased PLEA dues and again failed to ask the members what they thought or that they were taken it. This year after the pay increase kicks in member dues will rise again by the same amout of the raise. PLEA rakes in over 1 million dollars annualy but where does that money go? Little is ever said about how they spend your dues.

  2. The National Memorial is just a political football for Mark. He will use any leverage he can and it doesn't matter to him that all of his power really belongs to the members, not him. I know they didn't give the money to the memorial and it's not in the account either. He needs to tell the members what he did with the money.

  3. I'm done with Spencer and his crap. Now that the spotlight has turned on him he has crawled into a cave to hide like the coward I expected him to be. He is not a cop, he's not even a man.

  4. Mark Spencer is a pig! I don't know how he hasn't been brought up on sexual harrassment charges for the way he treats the female members. I keep my distance from him -- always!

  5. This isn't half the story. I know you don't want to go out on a limb, but Spencer has done a lot more wrong than you are posting here. I sent you a message, read it and ask around.

  6. So PLEA is back on the attack again with its website. At this point it is almost juvenile at the level of articles posted on there. Instead of updating members about upcoming elections they coplain about he councilman and post a letter, that bears little relevance.
Then they bring up the donation to the L.E. musuem asking members to give up more money monthly to contribute, It is not bad enough they already take over 60 doollars a month in dues now they want more. Plus we don't even see where it is spent. How sad you shouldn't force people to give money by automatically increasing thier dues once a year, it should be voluntary.
I guess this is one more point that the current "leaders" of Plea feel is acceptable, look out for them and not the members.

  7. Several members of the PLEA Board are "release positions" from the Department. As such, they are already being paid their normal city pay. Why is it they also need to be paid for being on the Board? No one else gets to be paid by the City and another entity for the same time. They are constantly after Chief Harris for accepting a City offered position after he retired. At least he was honest enough to do that in the public area. No one gets to monitor PLEA's gifts of money to its Board who are already being paid. Who monitors how much money PLEA spends for their "training." Who monitors their overtime (which is consistently more than allowed under the contract)? Their overtime abuses take overtime from officers who actually work on the street. Thanks a lot for nothing, Mark.

  8. No question that PLEA should roll back the raises. They should roll them back and cut dues to make up for their crappy judgement. These are hard times for everyone and we can all be in it together or they can act like kings and pretend like we are the servants.

  9. He used the money for the raises. It doesn't take a genius to figure that out.

  10. All the members of the PLEA board get monthly board fee checks. The six full time release members get more money and auto allowance money. The president (Mark) get the most money. Big surprise. And now they got a raise? Call the office and ask for a copy of the monthly budget report and you will see how many thousands of dollars are being paid to the clowns at PLEA.

This is a great site and I thank whoever took the time to put it up and keep it current. All of you folks are trying to hold Mark accountable. It's good to see not all PLEA members are Mark's Zombies like the PLEA board. God bless ya!

  11. FYI people they not only got raises but.. I don't recall voting for that slob Will Buividas but apparently he's now a negotiator.. and getting an the extra $900 a month to do this.. Last I checked He only spend about a year on the street then went staight to 620 as an info desk officer and now a full time board member negotiating for officers which is is completely disconected from ..

  12. Will Buividas. What a clown. Before he went to PLEA as one of Mark's trusty sidekicks he was working in the off duty work detail. They monitor all off duty work. In his off duty hours he somehow got an off duty job working for a local metal theft fencing operation making more money from them than he was making annually from the PPD. When the department took away the off duty job because of the companies criminal activity ties PLEA demanded the Mayor order Jack to give poor Will his job back. Good old Tom Lannon said "no way". And that was the end of that.

Of course Mark Spencer got Tom Lannon fired for that one. No wait a minute. Tom finished his 60 months in DROP and retired. Per Mark it's the same thing. If Tom had no left Mark would have ended his career like he did Frank Fairbanks.
